Essex blows out Mooretown, 9-2

The Essex 73s were firing on all cylinders against the Mooretown Flags, and when the final buzzer sounded 73s emerged with a 9-2 win.

Jordan Ryan had two goals and one assist to lead Essex. Ryan scored the first of his two goals at 12:16 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Essex. Marco Canzoneri picked up the assist. Ryan's next tally made the score 6-2 Essex with 16:33 left in the second period. Canzoneri provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:31 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The 73s' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Mooretown power plays. Essex's offense rang up 44 shots on Mooretown's net. The 73s' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Essex averages 5.1 goals per contest.

Essex also got points from Corey Beaulieu, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Jordan Brohman, who also racked up three goals and one assist, Alex Garon, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Daniel McIntyre, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. Essex also got a goal from Matthew Hebert as well. In addition, Essex received assists from Blaise Baillargeon, who had two and Kevin Boggs, Tyler Raymont, Adam Dunmore, Curtis Prymack, and Dylan Solecki, who contributed one a piece.

The Flags were helped by Mike Burns, who finished with one goal. Burns scored 11:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Essex. Dan Lumley picked up the assist. Caden Fleming also scored for Mooretown. More assists for Mooretown came via Riley Roberts, Jeff Schroeter, and Matt Brandon, who each chipped in one.

Trevor Wheaton rejected 20 shots on goal for the 73s. Essex totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-9 on the power play. For the 73s, Scott Bromley was ejected from the game. Brandon Johnson recorded 35 saves for Mooretown. The Flags ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. Mooretown ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Burns was ejected from the game.
