Essex uses big second period to beat Dresden, 7-1GLJHL Head Office Fri, Nov 02, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Essex 73s used a four-goal second period to put away the Dresden Kings, 7-1. Alex Garon had one goal and three assists to lead Essex. Garon scored 8:24 into the third period to make the score 7-0 Essex. Corey Beaulieu picked up the assist. The 73s forced Dresden's goaltenders to work between the pipes, finishing with 40 shots and forcing 33 saves. Brent Paxton made 22 stops and Kaylobe Derynck made 11. Essex put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Kings to score on any of their seven power plays. The 73s surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Essex has scored at the pace of 4.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Essex also got points from Marco Canzoneri, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Beaulieu, who also had one goal and two assists, and Jordan Brohman, who also registered two goals and one assist. Essex also got a goal from Jordan Ryan as well. More assists for Essex came via Blaise Baillargeon, who had two and Tyler Raymont, Aaron Thibert, Scott Bromley, and Daniel McIntyre, who contributed one a piece. Dresden stifled the 73s' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Kings could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Dresden puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Essex's Trevor Wheaton stopped 26 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The 73s incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Kings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
