Behind a great game by Jordan Brohman, who had one goal and two assists, the Essex 73s defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers, 5-2. Brohman scored 9:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex. Jeff Nolfo picked up the assist.In the losing effort, Wallaceburg was sparked by Sam Jasmin, who had two goals. Jasmin scored the first of his two goals at 4:24 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Essex. Nolfo provided the assist. Jasmin's next tally made the score 3-2 Essex with 18:37 left in the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:22 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Essex racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The 73s had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Essex forced Lakers' netminders to work without much rest, getting 50 shots and forcing 45 saves. Joel Sowinski made 17 stops and Devine Cove made 28. The 73s stifled the Lakers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Essex also got points from Corey Beaulieu, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Essex also got a goal from Adam Dunmore as well. In addition, Essex received assists from Alex Garon, who had two and Marco Canzoneri and Aaron Thibert, who contributed one a piece. Wallaceburg forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Lakers had been spending in the box. Trevor Wheaton recorded 18 saves for Essex. The 73s registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. For Essex, Beaulieu and Colin DeLaet were ejected from the contest. Wallaceburg registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For the Lakers, Mike Brown was ejected from the game.
