Mooretown outlasts Belle River, 5-3GLJHL Head Office Sat, Oct 27, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mooretown Flags gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Belle River Canadiens. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Riley Roberts secured the win for Mooretown with a goal in the third period. The Flags got the win thanks to a great game by Mike Burns, who had two goals and one assist. Burns scored the first of his two goals at 29 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Belle River. Burns' next tally made the score 3-3 with 14:16 left in the third period. Jordan McBeath assisted on the tally. Belle River's power play was ineffective against Mooretown's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Flags' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 11 Belle River power plays. Mooretown could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game. Mooretown additionally got points from Dan Lumley, who also had one goal and one assist. McGregor Haddon also scored for Mooretown. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Andrew Sokol, who had one and Jeff Schroeter, who had two. The Canadiens found themselves short handed often, totaling 36 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. Belle River was helped by Chris DiNatale, who grabbed one goal and one assist. DiNatale scored 4:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Belle River. Weston Gaul picked up the assist. Belle River also got points from Gaul, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Belle River also got a goal from Guy Levesque as well. In addition, Belle River received assists from Jordan Taylor and Jordan Luciw, who contributed one a piece. The Flags' Brandon Johnson stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Zakk Olvin made 23 saves for the Canadiens on 27 shots.
