Alvinston vanquishes Essex in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Alvinston Flyers defeated the Essex 73s in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Essex's shootout goal was scored by Jordan Ryan. In addition to the clincher, Alvinston got a shootout goal from Kirk Dorman.

The Flyers saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Alvinston made the score 2-0 on a power play goal by Kyle Cutler at 13:10 in the second period. The 73s evened things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Ryan at 19:59 in the third period.

The Flyers stifled Essex's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Alvinston kept the 73s' goalie busy throughout the game, and Trevor Wheaton made 39 saves on 42 shots.

Alvinston also got a goal from Cody Perriam as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Ryan Fraser, who had two and Joe Archer and Connor MacKinnon, who contributed one a piece.

Essex could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The 73s put an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. The Flyers were unable to stop Essex from sending pucks towards the net, and the 73s eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

Essex was helped by Colin DeLaet, who grabbed one goal. DeLaet scored 5:29 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Alvinston. Aaron Thibert picked up the assist. In addition, Essex received assists from Corey Beaulieu, who had one.

James Morreau recorded 44 saves for Alvinston. The Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The 73s incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
