Belle River vanquishes Kingsville in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Belle River Canadiens defeated the Kingsville Comets in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Belle River overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Canadiens trailed 4-1 after a goal by Kingsville's Steven Spada at 15:50 in the second period. Belle River tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Mark Manchurek at 10:52 in the third period.

Branden Larocque had two goals and one assist to lead the Canadiens. Larocque scored the first of his two goals at 10:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kingsville. Josh Synnott assisted on the tally. Larocque's next tally made the score 4-2 Kingsville with 3:02 left in the second period. Chris DiNatale provided the assist.

Belle River forced the Comets goalie Nathan Crankshaw to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Belle River also got a goal from Brenden Crundwell as well. In addition, Belle River received assists from Andrew Synnott, who had two and Derek Haskell and Richard Dunning, who contributed one a piece.

Kingsville was helped by Ryan Desjarlais, who tallied one goal and one assist. Desjarlais scored 4:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kingsville. Ryan Jones picked up the assist. Kingsville additionally got points from Adam Minovski, who also registered one goal and one assist and Daniel Beaudion, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Kingsville came via Robert Jardine, Mark Sobocan, and Andy Britton, who each chipped in one.

The Canadiens took out Brandon Cowell after he had made 12 saves and installed Zakk Olvin in goal, where he finished with eight saves and the win. Belle River incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Crankshaw rejected 33 shots on goal for the Comets. Kingsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
