Shelton's hat trick boosts Belle River over Wallaceburg, 6-2

James Shelton netted a hat trick to lead the Belle River Canadiens over the Wallaceburg Lakers, 6-2.

Shelton got on the scoresheet 5:47 into the second period. He then added goals at 17:57 into the second and at 9:22 into the third.

Belle River forced Wallaceburg goalie Devine Cove to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Belle River also got points from Branden Larocque, who also registered one goal and one assist. Derek Haskell also scored for Belle River. More assists for Belle River came via andy gossman, Donnovan Plummer, Brenden Crundwell, and Josh Synnott, who contributed one a piece and Andrew Synnott and Mark Manchurek, who each chipped in two.

The Lakers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Belle River power plays. The Canadiens were unable to stop Wallaceburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lakers eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Wallaceburg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Lakers were helped by Sam Jasmin, who tallied one goal. Jasmin scored on the power play 4:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wallaceburg. Wallaceburg had gotten the advantage when Belle River's Chris DiNatale was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Brett Storr provided the assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Jeff Nolfo as well.

The Canadiens' Zakk Olvin stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Belle River incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Canadiens ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and DiNatale was ejected from the game. Cove rejected 34 shots on goal for the Lakers. Wallaceburg registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
