Larocque's goals lift Belle River to 8-5 victory over Kingsville

Behind a great game by Branden Larocque, who had five goals, the Belle River Canadiens defeated the Kingsville Comets, 8-5.

Larocque notched his first tally 7:11 into the first period. He then added goals at 34 seconds into the second, at 19:00 into the second, at 18:23 into the third, and at 19:10 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:54 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Belle River forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game the Canadiens had been spending in the box. Kingsville was unable to stop Belle River from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadiens eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Belle River bested its season scoring average. The Canadiens have scored at the pace of 5.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Belle River's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Canadiens give up 2.5 goals per game.

Belle River additionally got points from Mark Manchurek, who also had one goal and three assists and Richard Dunning, who also racked up one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. James Shelton also scored for Belle River. Other players who recorded assists for Belle River were Chris DiNatale, who had three and Jordan Taylor, Derek Haskell, and Zakk Olvin, who contributed one a piece.

The Comets forced Belle River's goalies to work in net, finishing with 49 shots and forcing 44 saves. Brandon Cowell made 29 stops and Olvin made 15. Kingsville's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Comets average 2.9 goals per contest. Kingsville had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

The Comets were led by Ryan Desjarlais, who registered two goals. Desjarlais scored the first of his two goals at 15:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Belle River. Tyler Morand assisted on the tally. Desjarlais' next tally made the score 3-3 with 9:22 left in the second period. Kingsville had taken the advantage when the Canadiens' Donnovan Plummer got sent off for tripping. Ryan Jones provided the assist. Kingsville also got points from Jones, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Robert Jardine, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kingsville also got a goal from Peter Ducharme as well. More assists for Kingsville came via Devin Shannon, Kyle Morand, Mark Fratarcangeli, Frank Desjardin, Mark Sobocan, and Daniel Beaudion, who each chipped in one.

Belle River registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Canadiens, Mike Ditty and Jason Clarke were ejected from the contest. The Comets' Kyle Andrian stopped 23 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Kingsville ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. The Comets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Morand was ejected from the game.
