Wheatley beats Alvinston 6-5 after comeback scareWheatley Area Arena Mon, Oct 08, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wheatley Sharks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Alvinston Flyers on the way to a 6-5 win. A goal by Jon Woelk put Wheatley up 6-4 in the third period, but Alvinston pulled to within one on Joe Archer's tally 19:19 into the third period. Woelk was all over the ice for the Sharks, as he tallied four goals and two assists in the win. Woelk notched his first tally 15:03 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:59 into the second and at 7:58 into the third. Wheatley's offense rang up 44 shots on the Flyers' net. The Sharks bested their season scoring average. Wheatley averages 2.8 goals per game. Wheatley additionally got points from Kyle Quick, who also registered one goal and two assists. Kurtis Ouellette also scored for Wheatley. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Zach Wilson, who had one and Dylan Impens, who had six. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Alvinston also got a goal from Matt Laberge as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Karsten Berg, who had two, Dylan Lightfoot, who had four, and Clint Rose, Troy Whitely, and Kole Keating, who each chipped in one. Robbie Vrabel rejected 21 shots on goal for the Sharks. Wheatley totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Alvinston's Brad Jacklin stopped 38 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
