Alvinston blows out Dresden, 5-1

The Alvinston Flyers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Dresden Kings.

Dresden was stymied by Alvinston netminder Brad Jacklin, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Jacklin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.25 entering the contest.

The Flyers were sparked by Karsten Berg, who tallied one goal and one assist. Berg scored 17:25 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Alvinston. Joe Archer picked up the assist.

Alvinston excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Flyers' offense rang up 34 shots on the Kings' net. Alvinston's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Flyers average 2.5 goals per contest.

Alvinston also had goals scored by Tyler Kettler, who had two and Dylan Lightfoot and Kole Keating, who each put in one. More assists for Alvinston came via Chad Vaneyk, who had two and Matt Laberge, Cody Perriam, Connor MacKinnon, and Kirk Dorman, who contributed one a piece.

Dresden did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Kings average 3.2 goals per game.

Dresden was led by Dylan Mertz, who scored the team's only goal. Mertz scored 4:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Derek Daly provided the assist.

Alvinston incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Brent Paxton rejected 29 shots on goal for the Kings. Dresden incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
