Blenheim hangs on, beats Wheatley 2-0

Shawn Hope gave the Blenheim Blades the lead in the first period, and the Wheatley Sharks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

A goal 13 seconds into the the first period by Hope proved to be the game winner, and powered Blenheim to the victory Bowe Shepley picked up the assist.

The Blades were led by Hope, who tallied one goal and one assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:01 into the third period. Ten fighting penalties were dished out along with eight game misconducts.

Blenheim was often in penalty trouble, totaling three minors and four majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The Blades had been averaging 32.0 minutes in penalties per game. Blenheim's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Wheatley power plays.

Blenheim also got a goal from Kirk McKillop as well. More assists for Blenheim came via Jarrod Oliphant and Dylan Bonner, who contributed one a piece.

Wheatley forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and four majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Sharks had been spending in the box. Wheatley could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Sharks average 2.4 goals per game.

Dylan Vanderpol recorded 23 saves for the Blades. Blenheim registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Team's Shepley, Zack Horvath, Aidan Wiebenga, and Trevor Sparks were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Wheatley's Marc Tremblay stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. For the Sharks, Kurtis Ouellette, Kevin Sawatzky, Dylan Impens, and Max Turner were ejected from the contest.
