Cove stymies Alvinston, Wallaceburg wins 5-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Devine Cove helped the Wallaceburg Lakers defeat the Alvinston Flyers, 5-1.

Wallaceburg was led by Joe Allison, who grabbed one goal. Allison scored 4:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wallaceburg. Scott Lubbers picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:48 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Lakers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Wallaceburg's offense rang up 36 shots on Alvinston's net. The Lakers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Wallaceburg also got points from Joe Daly, who also had one goal and one assist, Lubbers, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Chris Taylor, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jeff Morey also scored for Wallaceburg. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Lucais Meyskens and Robert Towsley, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Alvinston forced the Lakers goalie Cove to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

The Flyers were led by Kyle Cutler, who scored the team's only goal. Cutler scored 12:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Dylan Lightfoot assisted on the tally.

Devine Cove made 34 saves for Wallaceburg on 35 shots. The Lakers totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For Wallaceburg, Towsley was ejected from the game. James Morreau recorded 31 saves for Alvinston. The Flyers ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Alvinston ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clint Rose was ejected from the game.
