Mooretown downs Alvinston in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Mooretown Flags pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Alvinston Flyers on a clutch goal by Adam Hayes.

Although Mooretown was up by as many as two goals in the second period, Alvinston kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Flyers got to within 3-2 on a power play goal by Josh Moore at 3:52 in the third period.

The Flags were led by Hayes, who racked up one goal. Hayes scored on the power play 3:34 into overtime to make the score 4-3 Mooretown. Mooretown had taken the advantage when Alvinston's Jake McPhail got sent off for inciting an opponent. McGregor Haddon assisted on the tally.

The defensemen of the Flags were also effective in the Flyers' zone, and came away with two goals. Mooretown was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 40 penalty minutes.

Mooretown additionally got points from Haddon, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Travis Mullen, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Dan Lumley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Mike Burns, who had one.

Alvinston kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Braden Palocz made 40 saves on 43 shots. Team could not crack Mooretown's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Kyle Cutler also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Kirk Dorman, who had two and Matt Laberge, Clint Rose, Tyler Kettler, and Troy Whitely, who contributed one a piece.

The Flags registered two goals on two power play opportunities. For Mooretown, Mullen was ejected from the game. James Morreau rejected 24 shots on goal for the Flyers. Alvinston incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
