Blenheim beats Mooretown 3-2 after comeback scare

The Mooretown Flags tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Blenheim Blades held on for a 3-2 victory.

Blenheim made the score 3-1 on a goal by Zack Horvath at 6:43 in the third period, and Mooretown got as close as 3-2 when McGregor Haddon scored 11:26 into the third period.

The Blades' penalty kill excelled, as Blenheim gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:07 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The the Blades penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 36.0 minutes per game Blenheim had been spending in the box.

Blenheim also got points from Kirk McKillop, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Blenheim also got a goal from Shawn Hope as well. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Jarrod Oliphant and Andrew France, who each chipped in one.

The Flags could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 39 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mooretown was helped by Mike Burns, who registered one goal. Burns scored 19:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Blenheim. Haddon provided the assist. Mooretown additionally got points from Haddon, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Travis Mullen, who had one.

Justin Pratt made 25 saves for the Blades on 27 shots. Blenheim registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For the Blades, John McKillop and Aaron Pastorius were ejected from the contest. Brandon Johnson rejected 26 shots on goal for the Flags. For Mooretown, Caden Fleming was ejected from the game.
