Florida Eels uses shootout to best Tampa Juniors, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Florida Eels defeated Tampa Juniors in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Florida Eels came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Florida Eels trailed 3-2 after a goal by Tampa Juniors' Jared Goudreau at 13:44 in the second period. Florida Eels knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Sean McGowan at 50 seconds in the third period.

In a losing effort, Tampa Juniors was led by Tommy Whiteley, who racked up two goals and one assist. Whiteley scored the first of his two goals at 15:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tampa Juniors. Logan Garst assisted on the tally. Whiteley's next tally made the score 2-2 with 6:52 left in the second period. Garst provided the assist.

Florida Eels kept Tampa Juniors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nicholas Malvin made 53 saves on 57 shots.

Florida Eels also got a goal from Tom Doverhjelm as well. Other players who recorded assists for Florida Eels were Steven Prince and Arnaldo Osuna, who each chipped in one and Joey Colatarci and Zachery Mudge, who contributed two a piece.

Tampa Juniors stifled Florida Eels' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Tampa Juniors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

Tampa Juniors also got points from Goudreau, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

Hunter Fernandez recorded 22 saves for Florida Eels. Florida Eels incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Tampa Juniors registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For Tampa Juniors, Ryan Menard was ejected from the game.
