Hampton Roads Whalers squeaks by Potomac Patriots, 5-3

Hampton Roads Whalers and Potomac Patriots were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hampton Roads Whalers made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Dylan Woods' goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Woods was all over the ice for Hampton Roads Whalers, as he racked up two goals in the win.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:17 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Hampton Roads Whalers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. Hampton Roads Whalers surpassed its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game. Hampton Roads Whalers kept Potomac Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alec Yutzler made 29 saves on 34 shots. Hampton Roads Whalers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Hampton Roads Whalers additionally got points from Cameron Snyder, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Christopher Haynes, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Alexander Brissette, who also had one goal and one assist. The Potomac Patriots penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Alexander Grose also scored for Potomac Patriots. In addition, Potomac Patriots received assists from Nathan Marks and Michael Carr, who each chipped in one.

Blake Scott made 29 saves for Hampton Roads Whalers on 32 shots. Hampton Roads Whalers registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Hampton Roads Whalers, Artur Raevskiy was ejected from the game. Potomac Patriots registered three goals on 11 power play opportunities. Potomac Patriots ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Graysonn Runey was ejected from the game.
