Atlanta Jr. Knights falls to Hampton Roads Whalers in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Hampton Roads Whalers' Cameron Snyder scored 1:40 into overtime to beat Atlanta Jr. Knights, 4-3 (OT).

With three goals and three assists between them, Scott Cornfield and Snyder teamed up to power Hampton Roads Whalers' offense. Cornfield registered two goals and one assist and Snyder also notched one goal and two assists.

Hampton Roads Whalers stifled Atlanta Jr. Knights' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hampton Roads Whalers struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays. Hampton Roads Whalers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Hampton Roads Whalers also got points from Snyder, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Matthew Zendejas, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Hampton Roads Whalers came via Dylan Woods and Alexander Brissette, who contributed two a piece.

Atlanta Jr. Knights forced Hampton Roads Whalers goalie Blake Scott to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Atlanta Jr. Knights could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Atlanta Jr. Knights was led by Tyler Pionk, who tallied two goals. Pionk scored the first of his two goals at 9:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Atlanta Jr. Knights. Shaunak Pal assisted on the tally. Pionk's next tally made the score 3-3 with 6:06 left in the third period. Jordan Simmonds picked up the assist. William Bray also scored for Atlanta Jr. Knights. Other players who recorded assists for Atlanta Jr. Knights were Michael Farino, who had one and Jeremy Bost, who had two.

Hampton Roads Whalers' Scott stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Hampton Roads Whalers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Brandon Haase made 26 saves for Atlanta Jr. Knights on 30 shots.
