Lakefield rolls over Georgina, 10-2Georgina Ice Palace Fri, Jan 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Lakefield Chiefs were firing on all cylinders against the Georgina Ice, and when the final buzzer sounded Chiefs emerged with a 10-2 win. Lakefield got the win on the strength of a great game by Gregory Jesse, who had two goals and three assists. Jesse scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:42 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Lakefield. The Chiefs earned a power play opportunity when Luke Vanderkooy was put in the box for slashing. Travis Brault provided the assist. Jesse's next tally on the power play made the score 6-1 Lakefield with 14:35 left in the second period. Jordan Walsh assisted on the tally. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:03 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts. Lakefield outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Chiefs average 4.8 goals per contest. Lakefield had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. Lakefield additionally got points from Curtis Bolton, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Walsh, who also had one goal and one assist, Eric Oosting, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Connor Blair, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Nathan Larson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Matt Perras also scored for Lakefield. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Eric Shewell, who had three and Ryan Anderson, Riley Campbell, Ryan Saunders, and Derek Manley, who contributed one a piece. Georgina was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and four majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The Ice had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Chiefs ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Lakefield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anderson was ejected from the game. Georgina registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Ice, Dylan Kovacs, Cam Russel, and Vanderkooy were ejected from the contest.
