Wainman leads Lakefield to shutout victory over Little Britain

Zach Wainman was superb between the pipes for the Lakefield Chiefs, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Little Britain Merchants.

Lakefield got the win behind a great game by Derek Manley, who had one goal and two assists. Manley scored on the power play 7:19 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. The Chiefs had gotten the advantage when Little Britain's Mac Beaton was sent off for roughing. Jordan Walsh assisted on the tally.

Lakefield put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Merchants to score on any of their five power plays. The Chiefs' defensive play was more effective than usual against Little Britain. Lakefield averages 2.4 goals allowed per game. The Chiefs forced the Merchants goalie Garrett Haden to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Lakefield additionally got points from Matt Perras, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Walsh, who also had one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Eric Shewell, who had one.

Little Britain was held below its usual level of production. The Merchants put an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game.

Wainman rejected 27 shots on goal for Lakefield. The Chiefs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Haden recorded 32 saves for Little Britain. The Merchants incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
