Ackerman leads Clarington over Georgina, 7-4

The Clarington Eagles' Brock Ackerman had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-4 win over the Georgina Ice.

Ackerman's tallies came on the power play at 3:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Clarington and 18:45 into the second to make the score 6-1 Clarington.

Georgina's 11 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Ice let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Clarington made Ice's netminders to work all game long, taking 53 shots and forcing 46 saves. Jake Francis made 34 stops and Jamie Thompson made 12. The Eagles outdid their season average for goals scored. Clarington averages 3.2 goals per game.

Clarington also got points from Jake Choiniere, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Dylan Howorko, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Brad Down, who also registered one goal and one assist. Clarington also got a goal from Brent Hambly as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Luke Garneau, Courtland Black-Araujo, Brett Brown, Blane Gaudon, and Brandon Hesson, who contributed one a piece.

Georgina's offense rang up 34 shots on the Eagles' net. The Ice were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 32 penalty minutes.

Georgina was helped by Jason Bianie, who had one goal and one assist. Bianie scored on the power play 19:59 into the third period to make the score 7-4 Clarington. The Ice had gotten the advantage when Clarington's Greg St. James was sent off for hooking. Erik Starcevic assisted on the tally. Dylan Kovacs also scored for Georgina. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Brendan Anderson, who had two and Cam Russel and Brandon Basler, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles' Brandon Green stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Clarington incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Georgina registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Thompson was ejected from the game.
