Lakefield uses fast start to beat Georgina, 7-2

The Georgina Ice fell behind early, and the Lakefield Chiefs kept piling on the points on the way to a 7-2 victory.

Derek Manley had one goal and three assists to lead Lakefield. Manley scored 11:52 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Lakefield. Daniel Hallihan assisted on the tally.

The Chiefs stifled Georgina's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lakefield forced the Ice goalie Jake Francis to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The Chiefs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Lakefield has scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Lakefield additionally got points from Jordan Walsh, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Eric Shewell, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Lakefield included Matt Perras, who had two and Curtis Bolton and Nathan Larson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Ryan Saunders, who had two and Gregory Jesse, Tyler Roy, Eric Oosting, and Travis Brault, who each chipped in one.

Georgina managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice ended up below its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Georgina's offense rang up 31 shots on the Chiefs' net.

The Ice were led by Tanner Allen, who registered one goal. Allen scored 19:18 into the first period to make the score 5-1 Lakefield. Georgina also got a goal from Scott Sandercock as well.

Dustin Cook recorded 29 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jake Francis made 36 saves for Georgina on 43 shots. The Ice registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
