Uxbridge uses early goal to top Lakefield, 5-3

The Uxbridge Bruins took the lead against the Lakefield Chiefs in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 5-3 victory.

Steve Doutsis provided Uxbridge with the game-winning tally when he scored 14:04 into the the first period. Patrick Morgan picked up the assist.

Doutsis and Morgan provided the spark for the Bruins, combining for three goals and two assists. Doutsis had two goals and Morgan also added one goal and two assists.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Uxbridge was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Bruins surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Uxbridge made Chiefs' netminders to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Zach Wainman made 23 stops and Dustin Cook made four. The Bruins excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Uxbridge additionally got points from Carter Vahey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Morgan, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Mike Ramsey, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Uxbridge came via Michael Spataro, Andrew Liboiron, Dylan Locke, and Marco Mastrangelo, who each chipped in one.

Lakefield racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Chiefs had been spending in the box. Lakefield stifled Uxbridge's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Chiefs forced the Bruins goalie Brandon Francey to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Lakefield's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Chiefs give up 2.5 goals per game.

Lakefield was led by Eric Oosting, who had two goals and one assist. Oosting scored the first of his two goals at 4:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brodie Harrison provided the assist. Oosting's next tally made the score 4-3 Uxbridge with 11:05 left in the third period. Jordan Walsh picked up the assist. Travis Brault also scored for Lakefield. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Eric Shewell, who had one and Derek Manley, who had two.

Francey recorded 30 saves for Uxbridge. The Bruins registered zero goals on nine power play opportunities. For Uxbridge, Korey Brand was ejected from the game. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Anderson was ejected from the game.
