Lakefield blows out Port Perry, 7-3

The Lakefield Chiefs were firing on all cylinders against the Port Perry Mojacks, and when the final buzzer sounded Chiefs emerged with a 7-3 win.

Jordan Walsh had two goals and one assist to lead Lakefield. Walsh scored the first of his two goals at 17:14 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lakefield. Walsh's next tally made the score 7-3 Lakefield with 1:39 left in the third period. Ryan Saunders provided the assist.

The Chiefs forced Port Perry goalie Jeff Julien to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Lakefield's goal total was higher than its season average. The Chiefs have scored at the pace of 4.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Lakefield also got points from Saunders, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Travis Brault, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Lakefield also had goals scored by Ryan Anderson, who had one and Curtis Bolton, who had two. More assists for Lakefield came via Nathan Larson, who had three and Hayden Lambe, Matt Perras, Daniel Hallihan, Eric Shewell, and Eric Oosting, who each chipped in one.

The Mojacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Port Perry's offense rang up 38 shots on Lakefield's net.

The Mojacks were helped by Logan Evans, who had one goal. Evans scored 6:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Anders Neilsen assisted on the tally. Port Perry additionally got points from Lee Taylor, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kyler Challis also scored for Port Perry.

Zach Wainman made 35 saves for the Chiefs on 38 shots. Lakefield ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Chiefs, Derek Manley was ejected from the game. Julien recorded 28 saves for Port Perry. The Mojacks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
