Howorko leads Clarington over Georgina, 8-3

Behind a great game by Dylan Howorko, who had two goals and one assist, the Clarington Eagles defeated the Georgina Ice, 8-3.

Howorko found the back of the net on the power play 4:44 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Clarington and again while on the power play 8:41 into the third to make the score 7-3 Clarington.

Georgina's 12 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Ice let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

In a losing effort, Georgina was sparked by Scott Sandercock, who registered two goals. Sandercock scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. The Ice had taken the advantage when Clarington's Brandon Hesson got sent off for holding stick. Jesse Johnston provided the assist. Sandercock's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Clarington with 4:12 left in the second period. Georgina had gained a power play chance when Luke Garneau was whistled for cross checking. Vito Jessop assisted on the tally.

The Eagles surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Clarington averages 3.1 goals per game. The defensemen of the Eagles were also effective in the Ice's zone, and came away with three goals. Clarington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

Clarington additionally got points from Courtland Black-Araujo, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Craig Crowther, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Blane Gaudon also scored for Clarington. Other players who recorded assists for Clarington were Dan Michel, who had two and Thomas Garrity, Graham Snoek, Brett Brown, and Brock Ackerman, who each chipped in one.

Georgina racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game the Ice had been spending in the box. Georgina was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Georgina also got a goal from Mark McKey as well. In addition, Georgina received assists from Tanner Allen, who had two.

For the Ice, JD Leblond was ejected from the game.
