Larson's big game bests Georgina in 9-6 Lakefield win

Nathan Larson had one goal and four assists to lead the Lakefield Chiefs to a 9-6 victory over the Georgina Ice.

Larson got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 8:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Lakefield had gained a power play chance when Luke Vanderkooy was whistled for cross checking. Travis Brault provided the assist. Larson dished an assist on Curtis Bolton's goal that made the score 4-1 Lakefield at 4:05 into the second period. He then added assists on Eric Oosting's goal at 8:46 into the second, on Brault's goal at 13:40 into the second, and on Matt Perras' goal at 17:10 into the second.

Georgina's 11 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Ice let up six goals while on the penalty kill.

The Chiefs outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Lakefield averages 4.8 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Lakefield also got points from Ryan Anderson, who also registered one goal and two assists, Riley Campbell, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Brault, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Mike Parkinson, Jordan Walsh, Tyler Roy, and Derek Manley, who contributed one a piece.

Georgina surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Ice average 2.9 goals per game. Georgina was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

The Ice were led by Scott Sandercock, who had two goals and one assist. Sandercock scored the first of his two goals at 7:49 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lakefield. Sandercock's next tally made the score 5-3 Lakefield with 10:46 left in the second period. Georgina additionally got points from Vanderkooy, who also had one goal and one assist. Georgina also got a goal from Mark McKey as well. More assists for Georgina came via Brendan Anderson, Dylan Kovacs, AJ Killens, JD Leblond, and JP Contento, who each chipped in one.

The Chiefs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Georgina registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Ice, Curtis Puhalski was ejected from the game.
