Lakefield survives Uxbridge comeback, wins 8-6

The Lakefield Chiefs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Uxbridge Bruins on the way to an 8-6 win.

Lakefield took a 8-5 lead during the third period, only to have Uxbridge storm back on a Raymond Auld goal 18:18 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Chiefs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Lakefield's offense rang up 49 shots on the Bruins' net. The Chiefs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Lakefield averages 4.6 goals per contest. The Chiefs' power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on 11 chances.

Lakefield was led by Travis Brault, who racked up two goals and two assists. Brault scored the first of his two goals short handed at 29 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-3 Lakefield. Brault's next tally short handed made the score 7-5 Lakefield with 11:48 left in the third period. The Chiefs played down a man on Nathan Larson's roughing. Lakefield additionally got points from Curtis Bolton, who also had one goal and one assist, Matt Perras, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Eric Shewell, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Derek Manley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mike Parkinson also scored for Lakefield. More assists for Lakefield came via Ryan Anderson, Jordan Walsh, and Eric Oosting, who each chipped in one.

Uxbridge racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Bruins had been spending in the box. Uxbridge stifled Lakefield's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bruins kept the Chiefs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dustin Cook made 28 saves on 34 shots. Uxbridge gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Bruins are averaging 2.3 goals against for the season.

Uxbridge was led by Mike Ramsey, who finished with three goals. Uxbridge also got a goal from Marco Mastrangelo as well. In addition, Uxbridge received assists from Justin Bean, who had two, Patrick Morgan, who had three, and Callum Lynch, Korey Brand, Shane Smith, and Matthew Allen, who contributed one a piece.

Lakefield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Blair was ejected from the game. Wayne Fryer made 41 saves for the Bruins on 49 shots. Uxbridge registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For the Bruins, Keegan Cairns was ejected from the game.
