Port Perry's Paul deadly on offense in 7-5 win against Georgina

The Port Perry Mojacks relied on the scoring touch of Matt Paul, who netted four goals, to beat the Georgina Ice, 7-5.

Paul got on the scoresheet 9:23 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:57 into the second, at 6:28 into the second, and at 15:04 into the third.

Port Perry led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Mojacks' Kyle Schweda's scored at 12:37 in the second period to put Port Perry up 6-3.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Mojacks were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Port Perry had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Mojacks forced Georgina's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 36 shots and forcing 29 saves. Michael Chilvers made 12 stops and Patrick BrewerAPM made 17. Port Perry's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Georgina power plays. The Mojacks bested their season scoring average. Port Perry averages 4.3 goals per game.

Port Perry additionally got points from Logan Evans, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Lucas Berkers also scored for Port Perry. More assists for Port Perry came via Mike Grifoni, who had one, Brodie Meyers, who had two, and Conner Shingler and Matt Johnston, who each chipped in three.

The Ice forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. Georgina surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice made Mojacks' goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 31 shots and forcing 26 saves. Jeff Julien made 14 stops and Drew Siydock made 12. Georgina found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Ice average 2.5 goals per contest.

Georgina was led by Tanner Allen, who finished with one goal and two assists. Allen scored 3:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. Scott Sandercock assisted on the tally. Georgina also got points from Sandercock, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Georgina also got a goal from Brendan Anderson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Luke Vanderkooy, who had two and Mitch McLaughlin and Brandon Basler, who contributed one a piece.

The Mojacks registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. For Port Perry, Grifoni was ejected from the game. For the Ice, Vanderkooy and Curtis Puhalski were ejected from the contest.
