Clarington outlasts Lakefield, 4-2Lakefield-Smith CC Sat, Oct 27, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Clarington Eagles escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Lakefield Chiefs. Clarington gained the winning advantage on a goal by Collin McGillis 6:00 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The Eagles were sparked by McGillis, who had one goal. Clarington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Lakefield to score on any of its four power plays. The Eagles' offense rang up 37 shots on the Chiefs' net. Luke Garneau also scored for Clarington. More assists for Clarington came via Cody Kean, who had two and Graham Snoek, Brett Brown, Blane Gaudon, and Craig Crowther, who contributed one a piece. Lakefield kept Clarington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nick Keleher made 43 saves on 45 shots. The Chiefs were helped by Eric Shewell, who finished with one goal and one assist. Shewell scored 19:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jordan Walsh assisted on the tally. Lakefield also got points from Walsh, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Connor Blair, who had two. The Eagles totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For Clarington, Snoek was ejected from the game. Dustin Cook rejected 33 shots on goal for Lakefield. The Chiefs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
