Murray leads Port Perry over Georgina, 8-4

Matt Murray was all over the ice for the Port Perry Mojacks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Port Perry's 8-4 win over the Georgina Ice.

Murray found the back of the net 13:54 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Port Perry and again while on the power play 17:09 into the third to make the score 8-4 Port Perry.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:19 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Mojacks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Port Perry had been spending in the box. The Mojacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Georgina to score on any of its five power plays. Port Perry bested its season scoring average. This season, the Mojacks average 3.9 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Port Perry additionally got points from Ryan Nichols, who also grabbed one goal and three assists and Brodie Meyers, who also had one goal and two assists. Joe Lamanna also scored for Port Perry. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Matt Johnston, who had three and Anders Neilsen, Kyle Schweda, Nick Loyst, and Dakota Watson, who contributed one a piece.

The the Ice penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Georgina surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Georgina was led by Erik Starcevic, who racked up one goal and two assists. Starcevic scored 17:09 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Port Perry. Luke Vanderkooy provided the assist. Georgina also had goals scored by Jesse Johnston, who had one and Scott Sandercock, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Mitch McLaughlin, who had two and Devon Smith, JP Contento, and Brandon Basler, who each chipped in one.

Port Perry registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Mojacks, Neilsen and Watson were ejected from the contest. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Vanderkooy was ejected from the game.
