Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lakefield Chiefs defeated the Uxbridge Bruins in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.Lakefield saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Chiefs made the score 3-1 on a short handed goal by Nathan Larson at 9:17 in the second period. Uxbridge evened things up at 3-3 on a short handed goal by Steve Doutsis at 15:07 in the third period. Lakefield pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes. The Chiefs forced the Bruins goalie Wayne Fryer to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Lakefield was helped by Derek Manley, who finished with one goal. Manley scored 6:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Jordan Walsh provided the assist. Lakefield also got points from Larson, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lakefield also got a goal from Eric Oosting as well. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Erik Gifford, Riley Campbell, and Travis Brault, who contributed one a piece. Uxbridge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Lakefield power plays. The Bruins' offense rang up 41 shots on the Chiefs' net. Uxbridge's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Bruins average 1.9 goal allowed per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Uxbridge was helped by Justin Bean, who had two goals. Bean scored the first of his two goals at 6:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Uxbridge. Keegan Cairns picked up the assist. Bean's next tally made the score 3-2 Lakefield with 16:37 left in the third period. The Bruins had taken the advantage when Lakefield's Curtis Bolton got sent off for slashing. Doutsis assisted on the tally. Uxbridge additionally got points from Doutsis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Uxbridge were Michael Spataro, Patrick Morgan, and Dylan Locke, who each chipped in one. The Chiefs' Dustin Cook stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Lakefield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Manley was ejected from the game. Fryer recorded 29 saves for Uxbridge. The Bruins incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
