Clarington's St. James deadly on offense in 4-1 win against Little Britain

The Clarington Eagles relied on the scoring touch of Greg St. James, who netted two goals, to beat the Little Britain Merchants, 4-1.

St. James scored on the power play at 9:29 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 3:32 into the third to make the score 3-1 Clarington.

Little Britain was stymied by Clarington netminder Nick Keleher, who stopped 32 shots during the victory. Keleher managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.36 prior to the game.

The Eagles pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 28 penalty minutes.

Clarington forced the Merchants goalie Neil Pittock to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Clarington also got a goal from Carter Vahey as well. Other players who recorded assists for Clarington were Craig Crowther, who had two and Graham Snoek, Brett Brown, Collin McGillis, and Dan Michel, who contributed one a piece.

Little Britain's offense rang up 33 shots on the Eagles' net.

The Merchants were led by Mark Vasey, who scored the team's only goal. Vasey scored on the power play 14:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Little Britain. Little Britain had gained a power play chance when Keleher was whistled for roughing after whistle. Tyler Trafford assisted on the tally.

Clarington registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Merchants' Pittock stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Little Britain incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Merchants, Jesse Beers was ejected from the game.
