Little Britain downs Lakefield in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Little Britain Merchants pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Lakefield Chiefs on a clutch goal by Paul Hennessey.

Lakefield's power play was ineffective against Little Britain's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Merchants were led by Hennessey, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hennessey scored on the power play 2:03 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Little Britain. Zach Boice assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:51 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Little Britain forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Merchants had been spending in the box. The Chiefs were unable to stop Little Britain from sending pucks towards the net, and the Merchants eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Team could not crack Lakefield's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Little Britain got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Mark Vasey also scored for Little Britain. In addition, Little Britain received assists from Kurtis Moore and Mitch Thurston, who each chipped in one.

The Chiefs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. Lakefield surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The Chiefs could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Lakefield puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Chiefs forced the Merchants goalie Neil Pittock to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots.

Lakefield was helped by Nathan Larson, who had one goal. Larson scored 18:12 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Travis Brault picked up the assist. Lakefield also got a goal from Taylor Reece as well. More assists for Lakefield came via Curtis Bolton, Jordan Walsh, and Tyler Roy, who contributed one a piece.

Pittock recorded 50 saves for Little Britain. Team's Nate Huhges, T.J. Doran, and Cash Cormier were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Chiefs' Zach Wainman stopped 47 shots out of the 50 that he faced. For Lakefield, Ryan Anderson and Matt Perras were ejected from the contest.
