Port Perry uses shootout to best Georgina, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Perry Mojacks defeated the Georgina Ice in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Port Perry overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Mojacks trailed 3-1 after a goal by Georgina's Mark McKey at 19:45 in the second period. Port Perry tied things up at 4-4 on a short handed goal by JP Contento at 18:58 in the third period.

The Mojacks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Georgina power plays. The Ice were unable to stop Port Perry from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mojacks eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Port Perry was helped by Ryan Beattie, who finished with one goal. Beattie scored 17:04 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Port Perry. Lee Taylor provided the assist. Port Perry additionally got points from Matt Johnston, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Matt Murray also scored for Port Perry. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Brandon Basler, who had one and Logan Evans, who had two.

The defense for Georgina tightened up when it had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 11 the Mojacks power plays.

Georgina also got points from Scott Sandercock, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Georgina also got a goal from AJ Killens as well. More assists for Georgina came via Dylan Kovacs, who had two and Jesse Johnston and Matt Battiston, who each chipped in one.

Port Perry's Drew Siydock stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Mojacks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Chilvers made 28 saves for the Ice on 32 shots. Georgina incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
