Clarington squeaks by Port Perry, 7-5

The game between the Clarington Eagles and the Port Perry Mojacks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Clarington emerged with a 7-5 win.

The Eagles gained the winning advantage on a goal by Carter Vahey 8:34 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

With three goals and three assists between them, Brent Hambly and Craig Crowther teamed up to power Clarington's offense. Hambly registered two goals and one assist and Crowther also notched one goal and two assists.

The Eagles struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 36 penalty minutes for 11 opposing power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Clarington also got points from Vahey, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Cody Kean, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Crowther, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Clarington also got a goal from Dylan Howorko as well. More assists for Clarington came via Collin Weston, who had two, Dan Michel, who had three, and Mike Grifoni and Brad Down, who contributed one a piece.

Port Perry's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Mojacks finished with 36 penalty minutes.

Port Perry was helped by Logan Evans, who registered two goals. Evans scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Perry. The Mojacks earned a power play opportunity when Grifoni was put in the box for interference. Anders Neilsen assisted on the tally. Evans' next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Port Perry with 10:51 left in the second period. A hooking penalty on Brett Brown had put Port Perry on the power play. Lee Taylor picked up the assist. Port Perry additionally got points from Taylor, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lucas Berkers also scored for Port Perry. Other players who recorded assists for Port Perry were Patrick McKay, Matt Paul, and Nick Loyst, who each chipped in one.

Clarington registered three goals on nine power play opportunities.
