Iacocca nets hat trick, leads St. Thomas to 3-1 win over London

Mike Iacocca lifted the St. Thomas Stars to a 3-1 victory with a hat trick against the London Nationals.

Iacocca notched his first tally 4:33 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:16 into the third and at 18:04 into the third.

St. Thomas' Donald Edwards was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. Edwards certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.43 entering the contest.

London's power play was ineffective against the Stars' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

St. Thomas racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Stars had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game.

More assists for St. Thomas came via Martin Kudla, who had three and Scott Mitchell, Kevin Zacharuk, and Braden Hellems, who contributed one a piece.

The Nationals could not produce up to they normal offensive output. London puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. St. Thomas was unable to stop the Nationals from sending pucks towards the net, and London eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Nationals were led by Sean Consitt, who scored the team's only goal. Consitt scored on the power play 13:05 into the second period to make the score 1-1. London earned a power play opportunity when Drew Collinson was put in the box for hooking. Noah Schwartz picked up the assist.

The Stars registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For St. Thomas, Reid Oliver was ejected from the game. The Nationals' Taylor Edwards stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. London incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
