St. Thomas wins tough contest against Lambton Shores, 3-2Joe Thornton RC Sun, Feb 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the St. Thomas Stars escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Lambton Shores Predators. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mike Iacocca secured the win for St. Thomas with a goal in the third period. Iacocca had two goals to lead the Stars to victory. St. Thomas pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes. The Stars forced Lambton Shores goalie Justin Tugwell to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. St. Thomas additionally got points from Colin Mooney, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for St. Thomas came via Martin Kudla, who had two and Kevin Zacharuk and Matt Tsioros, who each chipped in one. The Predators stifled St. Thomas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Stars were unable to stop Lambton Shores from sending pucks towards the net, and the Predators eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Lambton Shores was helped by Connor Annett, who tallied one goal. Annett scored on the power play 16:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Predators earned a power play opportunity when Reid Oliver was put in the box for hooking. Tanner Ferguson provided the assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Kyle Brothers as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lambton Shores were Brett Thompson and Cale Duberry, who contributed one a piece. Donald Edwards made 36 saves for St. Thomas on 38 shots. The Stars registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Tugwell recorded 31 saves for Lambton Shores. The Predators incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
