Kitchener wins tough contest against Stratford, 4-2Kinsmen Arena Sun, Feb 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Stratford Cullitons. Kitchener gained the winning advantage on a goal by Keli Grant 20 seconds into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Grant was all over the ice for the Dutchmen, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:42 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Kitchener's offense rang up 37 shots on Stratford's net. Kitchener also got points from Ryo Kobayashi, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kitchener also got a goal from Keegan Calder as well. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Brett Clampitt, who had three and Matt Guild and Tyler Hoffman, who contributed one a piece. The Cullitons kept the Dutchmen's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Williams made 35 saves on 37 shots. Stratford was led by Jake Ryan, who had one goal and one assist. Ryan scored on the power play 14:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. Andrew Barton provided the assist. Ryan Watson also scored for Stratford. More assists for Stratford came via Josh Miller and Jordan Currie, who each chipped in one. Kitchener totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. The Dutchmen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clayton Greer was ejected from the game. Michael Pesendorfer recorded 33 saves for the Cullitons. Stratford totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For the Cullitons, Mitch Vandergunst was ejected from the game.
