Thorold uses shootout to best Stoney Creek, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Valley Park Arena Sat, Feb 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Thorold Blackhawks defeated the Stoney Creek Warriors in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Stoney Creek's shootout goal was scored by Alexander Zaccaria. Thorold's other shootout goal was scored by Mark Arnone.Kevin Millejours had a great game for the Blackhawks, netting two goals. Millejours scored at 6:25 into the third period to make the score 2-2 and again while 13:54 into the third to make the score 3-2 Thorold. Thorold forced the Warriors' goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 38 shots and forcing 34 saves. Alexander Brooks-Potts made 11 stops and Blake Richard made 23. The Blackhawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Stoney Creek power plays. Thorold got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Thorold also got a goal from Joel Forestell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Brian Brosnan, Tanner Hildbrant, Adrian Copeland, Mackenzie Mac Avoy, and Tanner Pagendam, who contributed one a piece. Stoney Creek was helped by Zaccaria, who finished with one goal. Zaccaria scored 17:29 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Cordell James provided the assist. Stoney Creek additionally got points from Zach Niemanen, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Blake Luscombe also scored for Stoney Creek. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Ryan Lewis, who had two and Eric Eustace and Jordan Thomas, who each chipped in one. Brendan Polasek rejected 26 shots on goal for the Blackhawks. Thorold incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Warriors incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
