St. Catharines survives Fort Erie comeback, wins 5-3Fort Erie Leisureplex Sat, Feb 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fort Erie Meteors tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the St. Catharines Falcons held on for a 5-3 victory. St. Catharines took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Fort Erie storm back on a Andy Sturtz goal 8:27 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Falcons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Meteors to score on any of their five power plays. St. Catharines forced Fort Erie goalie Connor Visca to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Falcons were led by Luke Karaim, who racked up three goals. St. Catharines also got points from Yanni Rallis, who also had one goal and one assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Tyler Jackson as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Brad Col, Christian Harper, Ben Walsh, Koddi Quick, and Jesse Miller, who each chipped in one and Aaron Taylor and Dan MacEachern, who contributed two a piece. The Meteors struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays. Fort Erie was helped by Jesse Pereira, who tallied one goal and one assist. Pereira scored 5:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Carson Johnstone picked up the assist. Fort Erie additionally got points from Sturtz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Richard DeMarco also scored for Fort Erie. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Austin Carroll and Braeden Kavaravtzis, who each chipped in one. Stormer Santana made 24 saves for St. Catharines on 27 shots. The Falcons incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Meteors' Visca stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced.
