Machalski leads Cambridge to shutout victory over Brampton

The Cambridge Winter Hawks used a sparkling performance by Lucas Machalski to take down the Brampton Bombers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Cambridge's 1-0 shutout victory.

Todd Bannermon's game-winning tally was the game's only goal. It came at 7:49 in the second period. Chris Taylor assisted on the tally.

The Winter Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Cambridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brampton to score on any of its seven power plays. The Winter Hawks' offense operated below they season average. Cambridge puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Winter Hawks' defense was surprisingly good. Cambridge allows 2.7 goals per game. The Winter Hawks kept the Bombers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bryan Raymond made 39 saves on 40 shots.

In addition, Cambridge received assists from Brennon Pearce, who had one.

Brampton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Bombers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Brampton averages 2.7 goals per game.

Lucas Machalski made 30 saves for Cambridge on 30 shots. For the Winter Hawks, Cameron Pentsa was ejected from the game. The Bombers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
