Barton's big game bests Elmira in 5-2 Stratford win

The Stratford Cullitons' Andrew Barton had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Barton found the back of the net 55 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford and again while 8:58 into the second to make the score 2-0 Stratford.

Stratford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 21 penalty minutes.

The Cullitons kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mackenzie Blackwood made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Stratford also got points from Ryan Watson, who also registered one goal and three assists. Jonathan Langford also scored for Stratford. More assists for Stratford came via Liam Maaskant, Jordan Currie, Mitch Vandergunst, and Jake Ryan, who contributed one a piece.

The Sugar Kings forced Stratford goalie Nick Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Elmira was helped by Adam Dauda, who tallied one goal. Dauda scored 1:20 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Stratford. Brodie Whitehead picked up the assist. Elmira also got a goal from Rob Kohli as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Cass Frey, Jake Weidner, and Matt Harding, who each chipped in one.

Caldwell recorded 33 saves for the Cullitons. Stratford registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Cullitons, Jared Culliton was ejected from the game. The Sugar Kings totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Elmira ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Harding was ejected from the game.
