Leamington blows out St. Thomas, 4-1

The Leamington Flyers were firing on all cylinders against the St. Thomas Stars, and when the final buzzer sounded Flyers emerged with a 4-1 win.

Leamington got the win on the strength of a great game by Kyle Shaw, who had two goals and one assist. Shaw scored the first of his two goals at 58 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Leamington. Myles Doan assisted on the tally. Shaw's next tally made the score 4-1 Leamington with 5:56 left in the third period. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when St. Thomas' Cam Garrow was sent off for inciting an opponent. Cole Chevalier picked up the assist.

Leamington forced the Stars goalie Donald Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. The Flyers found themselves short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing four power plays.

Leamington additionally got points from Doan, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Leamington also got a goal from Alex Seguin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Nathan Opblinger, Mitchell Amante, Joe Manchurek, and Brett Langlois, who each chipped in one.

The St. Thomas penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Stars had been spending in the box. St. Thomas' offense operated below it season average. The Stars put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game.

St. Thomas was led by Mike Iacocca, who scored the team's only goal. Iacocca scored on the power play 15:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. The Stars had gained a power play chance when Jacob McGhee was whistled for cross checking. Martin Kudla assisted on the tally.

Matt Mancina made 16 saves for Leamington on 17 shots. The Flyers registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Edwards recorded 45 saves for St. Thomas. Team's Ian MacDonald and Dean Pawlaczky were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
