Kitchener downs Elmira in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Kinsmen Arena Tue, Feb 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Elmira Sugar Kings on a clutch goal by Clayton Greer. Kitchener was paced by Greer, who racked up one goal. Greer scored 3:41 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Kitchener. Brett Clampitt provided the assist. The Dutchmen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Elmira to score on any of its five power plays. Kitchener's offense rang up 33 shots on the Sugar Kings' net. The Dutchmen's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Matt Guild also scored for Kitchener. More assists for Kitchener came via Jordan Delaurier, Keli Grant, and John Divo, who contributed one a piece. Elmira managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Sugar Kings finished below its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Elmira kept Kitchener's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Williams made 41 saves on 43 shots. The Sugar Kings were helped by Jake Weidner, who tallied one goal. Weidner scored 5:18 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Craig Johnson assisted on the tally. Elmira also got a goal from Zac Coulter as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Brandon Stewart, who had one. The Dutchmen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hayden Neuman made 30 saves for Elmira on 33 shots.
