London uses shootout to best Chatham, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the London Nationals defeated the Chatham Maroons in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

London overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Nationals fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Chatham's Eric Palazzolo at 14:56 in the second period. London tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Lance Pridham at 19:18 in the third period.

The Nationals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. London kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darien Ekblad made 33 saves on 37 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Nationals were helped by Noah Schwartz, who racked up one goal and one assist. Schwartz scored on the power play 17:06 into the first period to make the score 1-1. London had taken the advantage when Chatham's Evan Mascaro got sent off for interference. Matt Fuller picked up the assist. London also got points from Fuller, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, London received assists from Paul Hopkins, Tyler Bryden, Derek Todosichuk, and Aaron Dartch, who contributed one a piece.

The Maroons were helped by Brennan Feasey, who had one goal. Feasey scored 4:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Nate Pietens assisted on the tally. Chatham also got a goal from Brayden Hopkins as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Morris Branden, Oliver Blayne, Michael Verboom, Alexander Morgan, and Steven Beenackers, who each chipped in one.

The Nationals' Taylor Edwards stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. London incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Chatham incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
