Huge game by Weidner boosts Elmira over Brampton, 5-2

Behind a great game by Jake Weidner, who had one goal and three assists, the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Brampton Bombers, 5-2.

Weidner beat Erik Angeli with a shot 4:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Mitch Wright assisted on the tally. Weidner dished an assist on Cash Seraphim's goal that made the score 3-2 Elmira at 14:43 into the second period. He then added assists on Zac Coulter's goal at 17:15 into the second and on Coulter's goal at 16:34 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:53 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Elmira was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Sugar Kings surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Brampton was unable to stop Elmira from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sugar Kings eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Elmira also got a goal from Adam Dauda as well. More assists for Elmira came via Steven Jakiela, Brandon Stewart, and Jaden Goetz(APJ), who contributed one a piece.

The Bombers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. Brampton had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bombers kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Hayden Neuman made 31 saves on 33 shots.

Brampton was helped by Brady Clouthier, who had one goal. Clouthier scored on the power play 11:49 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Bombers had gained a power play chance when Pat McKelvie(APJ) was whistled for interference. Jacob Hanlon picked up the assist. Calvin Gomes also scored for Brampton. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Josh Villaflor, who had one and Reid Jackman, who had two.

The Sugar Kings registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Elmira, Connor MacIvor, McKelvie(APJ), and Jakiela were ejected from the contest. Angeli recorded 29 saves for Brampton. The Bombers registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Kyle Allan, Jackman, and Kurt Wolff were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
