Port Colborne holds on for 6-4 win against BuffaloBuffalo State College Arena Tue, Feb 05, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Buffalo Jr. Blades tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Port Colborne Pirates would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4. Port Colborne took a 6-2 lead during the third period, only to have Buffalo storm back on a Tom Hanna goal 17:21 into the third period to pull to two goals down. Dayne Phillips had one goal and two assists to lead the Pirates. Phillips scored 13:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. Zack Deconilys assisted on the tally. Port Colborne kept the Jr. Blades' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 37 saves on 43 shots. The Pirates' penalty kill unit could not stop Buffalo's power play, which converted on three of four opportunities. Port Colborne also got points from Deconilys, who also finished with one goal and one assist and DYLAN BURDICK, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Port Colborne also got a goal from Michael Sharp as well. More assists for Port Colborne came via Dima Lavrenov, who had three and Pat Murphy, Trevor Smith, Jordan Warren, and Charlie Izaguirre, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Blades managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Buffalo ended up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jr. Blades were helped by Kennedy Monaco, who registered one goal. Monaco scored on the power play 12:13 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Port Colborne. Buffalo earned a power play opportunity when Nick Dagostino was put in the box for hooking. Ryan Stayner picked up the assist.
