Stratford downs Elmira, 6-3

The Stratford Cullitons beat the Elmira Sugar Kings, 6-3.

Stratford put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Elmira to score on any of its three power plays. The Cullitons forced the Sugar Kings goalie Hayden Neuman to work between the pipes, taking 57 shots. Stratford surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Cullitons average 3.7 goals per contest.

Stratford was led by Trevor Sauder, who racked up one goal and two assists. Sauder scored short handed 17 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. Ryan Watson picked up the assist. Others who scored for Stratford included Shane O Brien, who had two and Josh Miller, Mitch Brooks, and Trevor MacDonald, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Brett Heaman, who had two and Ryker Killins, Mike Pleon, and Jake Ryan, who contributed one a piece.

Elmira was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game the Sugar Kings had been spending in the box.

Elmira was led by Mitch Wright, who grabbed three goals. In addition, Elmira received assists from Jake Weidner, who had two and Pat McKelvie(APJ), Brandon Stewart, Cash Seraphim, and Pete Croal, who each chipped in one.

Nick Caldwell rejected 25 shots on goal for the Cullitons. Stratford totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-12 on the power play. The Cullitons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitch Vandergunst was ejected from the game. The Sugar Kings' Neuman stopped 51 shots out of the 57 that he faced. Team's Cass Frey and Matt Harding were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
