Port Colborne erases deficit to stun Welland, 5-4

The Port Colborne Pirates climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Welland Jr. Canadians, 5-4.

Port Colborne never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Pirates fell behind 3-0 after a short handed goal by Welland's Brooker Muir at 9:42 in the first period. Port Colborne tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Bryan Komasara at 11:49 in the third period. The Pirates scored the game winner at 15:43 in the third period on a goal by Komasara.

Port Colborne also got points from Pat Murphy, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jordan Warren, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Port Colborne came via Zack Deconilys, who had three and Dayne Phillips and Charlie Izaguirre, who each chipped in two.

The Jr. Canadians forced Port Colborne's goalies to work between the pipes, finishing with 36 shots and forcing 32 saves. Morgan Hudson made 29 stops and Real Cormier made three.

Welland was led by Matthew Mateljan, who finished with one goal and one assist. Mateljan scored 1:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Adam Mataya provided the assist. Welland also got a goal from Riley Brooks as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Braden Curry, who had two and Aaron Beally, CJ Stellato, and Mack Seebach, who contributed one a piece.

The Pirates incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Matt Coulombe recorded 25 saves for the Jr. Canadians. Welland incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
