Strathroy rolls over Chatham, 4-1West Middlesex Arena Sat, Feb 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Strathroy Rockets were firing on all cylinders against the Chatham Maroons, and when the final buzzer sounded Rockets emerged with a 4-1 win. Strathroy's Dalen Kuchmey was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. Kuchmey managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.83 prior to the game. The Rockets were led by Matthew Watson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Watson scored 1:33 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Strathroy. Stuart King picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:34 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Strathroy penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Chatham had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Maroons were held below their usual level of production. Chatham averages 4.0 goals per game. The Maroons' offense rang up 31 shots on the Rockets' net. Chatham was led by Alexander Morgan, who scored the team's only goal. Morgan scored on the power play 19:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Strathroy. The Maroons had gotten the advantage when Strathroy's Duarte was sent off for tripping. Steven Szekesy provided the assist. The Rockets registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For Strathroy, Dylan Wilson-Foote was ejected from the game. Chatham registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blake Blondeel was ejected from the game.
