LaSalle penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of St. Marys

The LaSalle Vipers' penalty kill was superb, as LaSalle survived multiple penalties to beat the St. Marys Lincolns, 5-2.

The Vipers were led by Ben Hanus, who racked up one goal. Hanus scored 8:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 LaSalle. Korey Morgan provided the assist.

In the losing effort, St. Marys was sparked by Cody Filson, who finished with two goals. Filson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Marys. The Lincolns had taken the advantage when LaSalle's Zack Percy got sent off for roughing. Tyson Baker picked up the assist. Filson's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 LaSalle with 8:53 left in the second period. Owen MacDonald assisted on the tally.

The Vipers' offense rang up 41 shots on St. Marys' net. LaSalle was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

LaSalle additionally got points from Blake Jones, who also tallied one goal and one assist. LaSalle also got a goal from Dylan Denomme as well. More assists for LaSalle came via Chad Shepley and Nathan Savage, who each chipped in one and Scott Prier, Eric Noel, and Patrick Murphy, who contributed two a piece.

The Lincolns' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as St. Marys finished with 24 penalty minutes.

In addition, St. Marys received assists from Kurtis Lavis and Danny Bryan, who each chipped in one.

Conner MacKinnon recorded 28 saves for the Vipers. LaSalle registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Lincolns' Craig Wood stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced. St. Marys registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
